straddie beach house
Nestled on a bush block on Minjerrabah (Stradbroke Island), land of the Quandamooka People, Straddie beach house is an elevated Australian Beach Shack.
Flokk Interiors worked with Refresh Design and Bespoke Constructions on the interior layout, joinery, material selections and furniture curtaion to create a beach house that is loved by the 3 families that share it as their island getaway.
Vicki is one of the proud owners of this special place. She designed the interiors to be robust, honest and fuss free. Keeping a limited palette allowed the owners to concentrate on quality, selecting Japanese charred timber, terrazzo flooring and solid blackbutt slabs and concrete basins for the communal vanities. The outdoor bath with custom copper tapwork brings a sense of rustic luxe. It was also important that the interiors settle into the landscape, letting the natural environment be the hero.
“I wanted the house to feel as though had always been there”
The house is designed to maximise togetherness, featuring a generous communal area divided into 4 distinct zones. Fire Pit, Eating, Lounging and the Impresive Front Verandah, The house easily swells or contracts via the large stacking doors on each side opening fully to the environment or cozying up on wintery nights.
